This short course will begin by looking at some formal argumentation structures and fallacies, and reflection upon what Critical Thinking is, and why it is important in every walk of academic and daily life. Then, through looking at the specific contexts of the scientific method, legal argumentation, and examples from the media, participants will be asked to show understanding of argument construction through exercises and activities that borrow heavily from real-world examples. By the end of the course, participants should have a clearer understanding of both constructing and critically analyzing arguments in a range of forms and contexts.
