This course has two components:
1. Learners will watch and listen to interesting and engaging videos on a wide range of technical and scientific topics, including Biology, Medicine, Physics, Manufacturing science, and Statistics, among others. Videos utilized include popular subjects produced by the journal Nature, National Geographic, TED, etc. Learners will be guided through exercises to help them comprehend the main ideas, build vocabulary, and gain insights into natural English constructions.
2. We will closely examine the English presented in technical and scientific videos through transcripts, readings, exercises, partner activities, and group discussions. This will serve to strengthen grammar, listening, and production skills. Participation, critical thinking, and communication will be emphasized.
“Technical English Through Media” Course Goals
This course has two goals:
1. Although the topics studied will be technical and scientific, ultimately this course seeks to improve learners' overall ability to comprehend and utilize English across a range of topics.
2. This course will provide learners with a methodology that can be utilized going forward, to continue independently developing their own language skills in the future.
“Technical English Through Media” Evaluation Methodology
Learners will be evaluated based upon their performance on quizzes, written exercises, and participation in partner and group discussions. Due to the limited number of sessions, on-time attendance of every session is also highly important.
