A total of seven trainees have completed the program and are now active as groundwater environmental leaders in universities and research organizations around the world. Those who have completed the program form our core for training new groundwater environmental leaders. We are looking forward to a future in which Gelk's international network will grow to even broader reaches.

Do Phuong Khanh from Vietnam

Hi, my name is Do Phuong Khanh. I graduated from Vietnam National University, Hanoi then I continued my master degree in Kumamoto University. I became a GelK student from the second year of the doctoral course. My background is water engineering. The water pollution in my country is now a big problem, including concerns on groundwater and surface water, I therefore has considered GelK program as a useful course for higher education. When GelK program was started, some of my friends wished to join but they could not due to the final year of their doctoral degree. Being a member of GelK, I have felt lucky to get knowledge from numbers of well-prepared lectures on groundwater as well as interesting outdoor activities. Thank to GelK, I have lots of good friends.

Rusmawan Suwarman from Indonesia

After completing a Masters in faculty of earth science and technology at ITB-Indonesia, I started looking for continuing my doctorate study in the area of my interest. My interest study is hydrological phenomena in atmosphere using chemical approach. This is my first year join with International Joint Education Program for Groundwater Environmental Leaders of Kumamoto University (GelK). I can say that this program gives good support to the students to do their research, especially in hydrological or water environment. It is very nice that I could find the university provides this program with excellent professors and laboratories. I do enjoy with the method that GelK offers for both in class and practical experiment in field or laboratory. One more thing I love about this program is that I learn about groundwater from various scientists and stake holders of groundwater from Japan and overseas, and they share their knowledge and experiments. It is important to open insight widely about groundwater, and I believe it is applicable to my country in the future.
